Sora no Otoshimono: Panties set to take flight

Sora no Otoshimono’s popular flying panties are set to take actual flight in Japan soon.

Award-winning science-fiction author Housuke Nojiri (Rocket Girls, Usurper of the Sun) will appear at this March’s Sora Fes! — a festival for homemade model aircraft inspired by the flying panties seen in the Sora no Otoshimono television anime series.

Last year’s animated adaptation of Suu Minazuki’s Sora no Otoshimono modern fantasy manga created a stir with its ending animation footage, which featured a flock of flying panties in formation. Nojiri wrote the novel inspiration of the Rocket Girls anime, but he was not directly involved with the Sora no Otoshimono anime. Nevertheless, he was inspired by Sora no Otoshimono to supervise the mass production of model ornithopters (flapping-wing airplanes) shaped like flying panties. The ornithopters will launch at Sora Fes! for 1,000 yen (about US$11), but each 2,000-yen (about US$22) ticket to the event will include one ornithopter.

Besides Nojiri, the event will host the other creators of the flying panties ornithopter, Kazuhiko Hachiya (the artist best known for developing OpenSky’s life-size jet-assisted glider inspired by Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind), and TBS television announcer Jun Suzuki. There will be a workshop for building ornithopter kits and a discussion panel with Nojiri, Hachiya, and Suzuki.

Interesting, I’d love to see that XD . The flying panties are becoming really popular amongst the Otaku community it seems. Some other people have allowed the panties to take flight as well.

An A-Pop Mashup

王心凌 王心凌 via last.fm

It’s time once again to venture over the International Date Line via The World Wide Web to the land of A-Pop.

First up from Taiwan is a classic from Cyndi Wang.  She had loads of teenage fans long before Hannah Montana.

Meanwhile last year “Girls (were) poppin’ in the k-pop music world! This new mashup (by MMixes from You Tube) features 10 hits …

Last but not least is another dose of J-pop.

When I-Tunes knew I liked Polysics one of the artists they recommended was a singer named Yuka Funakoshi

The trouble is if I watch these videos too much I turn into one of those silly anime characters with hearts in my eyes.

Then my daughter has to come over and crack me one up side the head.

“Wow Yuka!”

Daaaaaaaaad!

Bonus Negima OAD Episode confirmed

Since apparently the Negima OADs hav been succesful as of lately, there will be a bonus episode coming out which adats the Ariadone magical girl arc . Some pretty good news, but not too big of a fan of Yue, but it’s Negima, so either way I’m sure it’ll be good~! NIce to hear that the OADs won’t be ending at 4 episodes. Now it would be nice if there was a new TV series…but perhaps not…Negima has had a much better run as an OAD series…but we still have the movie to wait for as well in 2011~

Funimation released the earlier Negima and Negima television series, as well as some of the video spinoff projects, in North America. Del Rey will publish the 25th volume of the manga next month.

The Japanese publisher Kodansha had announced the Mahō Sensei Negima! ~Mō Hitotsu no Sekai~ project last February as the second DVD series to be bundled with volumes of the manga. The first of the four originally planned volumes shipped with the 27th manga volume last September, and the fourth volume will ship with the 31st volume on August 20.

This year’s 10th issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine is announcing on Wednesday that an anime extra for the Mahō Sensei Negima! ~Mō Hitotsu no Sekai~ original anime DVD (OAD) series has been green-lit for this Fall. The new anime will adapt the Ariadone magical girl arc from Ken Akamatsu’s original Negima! Magister Negi Magi manga. According to the magazine, the extra is being produced to thank the fans for making the OAD series a hit. More details will be provided in the magazine in future issues.

K-on ep 14 live house?

WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS!!!!

Well i should have expected this to happen, Kyoto Animation ALWAYS does this, they release a special episode like later when you think thats its ALL over…ONLY ON DVD, but in this case because technology has advanced, its BLU-RAY DISK
To some more —->

Oh its mio, that was surprising…

~Kyuun~
Oh yeah they used the sunrise thing for new years from the manga here, instead of ending it with ep 13, :P oh wells, i thought they would also start the new season with the sunrise…Oh well azu-nyan in tora-mimi is good enough for me.

Yeah, something “original”, where they perform at a live house.

Falling Mio, Dont worry azunyan will catch her,

So this ep wasnt anything special, the story didnt advance which is also not surprising cause its an OVA, or special where its not allowed to advance…otherwise they would have thrown this in the airing.  The problem is that Kyoto animation ALWAYS DOES THIS, to what reason you may ask? TO MAKE YOU BUY THE BLU_RAY!!!  AND TO MAKE SOME MONIES, which is kinda annoying cause thats all they can do with one year?…Kinda lacking some more anime…
Oh well thats enough ranting.  Prolly Stop posting stuff on Worldwake cause its all released and there isnt anything special anymore, cept maybe a few cards thats look funny, so ill guess i should post them.

So・Ra・No・Wo・To – 04

  • That is some fast way of learning to play the trumpet…
  • Noel’s way of talking sounds like Nagato Yuki, but her passion for the tank is more like Gunther Isara.
  • That also makes Noel’s “Arigatou” and smile at the end extra KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~!
  • The war in the previous era seems pretty serious to destroy all marine life, leaving people like Kanata clueless about how fishes are like.
  • Seems like the tools of war then are now lost technology. My guess is that it claimed numerous lives then, including the scientists and engineers, thus rendering most of the data lost.
  • Tomatsu Haruka gets a role as the girl in the glass factory!!! (PS: Her latest single “Girls, Be Ambitious”, also ED song of this series, will be released tomorrow!)

Shana Pencil Case (シャナ筆箱)

In my country, tomorrow I am heading back to school after my long summer vacation. I have bought all my school supplies books, pencils, etc. Ready for a long period of studying to gain a high score which would allow me to study what I want in University which is Robotic Engineering. I guess I won’t be able to watch anime for a while. Anyway as you can see the picture on the left side is my current pencil case. Its losing its color a bit  but I have been using it for half a year. I bought this from Hong Kong for 3 cents lol but $8 shipping (<_>). Took two weeks to arrive. The pencil case has the same image printed on both side of shana (Yes I really like her). The material is quite thin and cheap very low quality and I assume that a sharp object can easily make a hole in it.

Nevertheless it is still a very cool looking pencil case, even some stranger sitting next to me said that she liked it. Well lets see how long it last maybe if I take good enough care of it, it will last till I graduate from Uni.

To Aru Kagaku No Railgun 16

Well, that story arc ended earlier then I expected. This show really needs more esper related stuff though…

Mii confronts Kurozuma about where he’s been the past two years, thinking he was dead. He notices her Judgement armband though, and simply states that he’s going to disappear soon again. The next day, Mikoto and the others are curious about the relationship between Mii and Kurozuma, so they go to her apartment in the hopes they can get some answers. Mii isn’t home, however upon hearing the name Kurozuma, Mii’s roommate invites the girls in to discuss the matter. She reveals that Mii was indeed once a member of Big Spider. She explains that Mii hit a wall in her esper development, and Big Spider was a place where she felt comfortable with.
After, back at the Judgement station, the girls learn that Anti-skill is planing a raid on the area Big Spider is based. Mii also learns about this, and goes to the area hoping she can warn Kurozuma before he gets caught up in it. Mikoto meets up with Mii on the rooftop, and Mii reveals to her about what happened. Two years ago, Kurozuma went off to rescue Hebitani who had been kidnapped by a rival gang. Mii tried to stop him, knowing it was a trap, but Kurozuma wouldn’t listen, and also tells Mii that perhaps this isnt the place she was meant to be. Mii chased after him anyway, but arrived at the scene too late. Everyone had assumed Kurozuma died in the raid. Back on the rooftop however, Kurozuma appears and explains he wasn’t dead, but was hospitalized and then imprisoned for the two years he was missing. He then tells Mii that he intends to handle Big Spider himself, and again not to help him.
The day of the Antiskill raid however, Mii decides to go off to help Kurozuma hoping that the past wouldn’t repeat itself. Mikoto and Kuroko however, stop her on the way and give her her Judgement armband. The three of them then procede to Big Spider’s hideout to assist Kurozuma. The four of them storm into the hideout, and after Mikoto and Kuroko take care of the gangs guns and the Capacity Down system, Mii tells them to let her and Kurozuma handle everything else.

Kurozuma easily takes down all the grunts (with the help of Mii, who uses her esper power: x-ray vision), and confronts Hebitani. Hebitani then reveals that he has a suicide-bomb rigged to himself. Before he has the chance to use it, Kurozuma knocks him out.
In the aftermath, Anti-skill arrests all the gang members, and Mii reluctantly arrests Kurozuma as well. Kurozuma tells Mii that her new self suits her well.

Well, that was an alright episode. I certainly thought the Big Spider thing was gonna be more then two episodes though. I also though that Mii would be taking kinda of a fallen-hero type of role and that Mikoto and co. were going to have to deal with her (the OP gave me those vibes). It looks like I was dead wrong though, at least for now. I have a feeling though this isn’t the last time we’ll see Kurozuma. Also, although this arc itself was rather short, there was one hint of a bigger story going on in the background: Hebitani had a scene in which he was discussing the Capacity Down system with someone on the phone, and it sounds like someone supplied it to him. Sounds an awful lot like the last arc, and I bet the nameless women in the OP has something to do with it. It seems like the second half of this anime is going to be a lot like the first, with a bunch of small stories that eventually all tie into one big plot.
The only problem I have personally with this anime as a whole is that they seem to be emphasizing the struggles people with little or no esper powers have. And while I see the good in that, I just wish they’d focus more on the actual espers and the different powers. I think the setting for the To Aru story is great, however it leaves me wanting to know more about the strong espers of Academy City. So far in the anime we’ve only been introduced to two of the six Level-5s, and I’d like to at least be introduced to a couple more of them. I should note that I really liked the Accelerator vs the Sisters arc in Index, so I guess I want more of that. However, with Railgun being only 25 episodes, it looks like we’re in store for only one more arc, and it’s really looking to be something similar to the Level-Upper arc (which means it doesn’t look like they’ll touch on the Sisters either). I can only hope the next series (if they do one) will be more about the Academy-City elite, and less of the “losers” struggles (which is ironic because the lead character Mikoto is a Level-5, although I see the point). Oh yeah, and more Touma and Index would be nice!

This Railgun episode wasn’t complete either, because there was no one sided yuri-love! Boo!!

Top Picks – Fall 2009 Anime, Part 3: VMA Awards

The final set of awards before going to my top shows of the season cover the music, vocal actors, and animation aspects of this season’s anime. Or the three parts to anime that are heavily dependent on the preferences of the individual viewer. :)

Best Male Seiyuu

Winner: Souichiro Hoshi as Tomoki from Sora no Otoshimono
Runner-up: Masato Sakai as many roles from Blue Literature

I often wonder how much does a great character improve how I think of a seiyuu’s performance and, conversely, how much does a great job by the seiyuu go into improving that character. One way to separate the two is to look at other roles that the seiyuu has done and see if they’re consistent. In the case of Souichiro Hoshi, I adored his voice in Sengoku Basara when he played Sanada Yukimura (the hot-headed red guy) and in Phantom when he played the scheming brother Toru Shiga and I still remember another role he did as K1 from Higurashi. So, I have some confidence to say that Souichiro Hoshi does a great job injecting the right level of manliness into Tomoki’s character and thus earns the fall season Best Male Seiyuu award. Here’s a video of him singing from episode 10:

-

Best Female Seiyuu

Winner: Saori Hayami as Ikaros from Sora no Otoshimono
Runner-up: Satomi Arai as Kuroko from To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

If I apply the same test to Saori Hayami, I find that I loved her voice as Kou, the shrine maiden, from Wagaya no Oinarisama and Saki from Eden of the East. And more importantly, for the purposes of this award, her work as Ikaros impressed me. Which I found odd at first because Ikaros comes off as very emotionally flat but thinking about it more, that might be the reason why I’m impressed with her work so much. Namely, Saori Hayami does such a good job making Ikaros feel emotionally detached and then does an equally great job voicing Ikaros as she tries to learn what it means to be human. So Saori Hayami wins this award and here’s a video of her singing from episode 10.

-

Best OP

Winner: Astro Fighter Sunred
Runner-up: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, Sasameki Koto

A good crop of openings this season which made it hard to pick just one. Sunred squeaked past everyone else based on the superior use of the animation to channel the humor of the series and distill it down into a minute and half of hilarity.

-

Best ED

Winner: Sora No Otoshimono
Runner-up: Kemono no Souja Erin, Hetalia Axis Powers – America version

Sora no Otoshimono had a different ending song and completely different animation to accompany that song for each of it’s thirteen episodes. My favorite was the one that ran a blooper reel of “mistakes” made during the filming of the show. So for going well above-and-beyond what one expects for even the best anime, Sora no Otoshiomono easily wins this award.

-

Best Background Music

Winner: Blue Literature

Blue Literature holds the special place as the only anime that my sister has ever wanted the soundtrack album for. Of course, I can’t seem to find any information if one is going to released which is just my luck because I had the very same reaction to the background music as I watched this show the first time. My favorite piece was the one that the woman played at the beginning of Kokoro and elsewhere.

-

Best Dressed Characters

Winner: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

It was obvious that J.C. Staff received a large enough budget for Railgun that they could attend to all the small points. And a large wardrobe for it’s characters is definitely a small thing but it correlates well with high-quality anime. I also think it’s a great non-time consuming way to let the viewers know more about a character’s personality.

-

Best Animation Style

Winner: Kimi ni Todoke
Runner-up: Blue Literature

The lovely animation style to Kimi ni Todoke made it a difficult show to drop but eye-candy does not automatically make a show a high quality one. So, eventually, I just couldn’t stand watching more of Kimi ni Todoke but that does not mean I would deny it an award that it deserves. And Kimi ni Todoke’s lovely, lush watercolor style does deserve this award.

-

Best Animation

Winner: Blue Literature
Runner-up: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

While each story of Blue Literature displayed a varying amount of animation style which made it difficult to pick it for Best Animation Style, each and every story displayed a high level on animation quality. I’m not surprised by this because, after all, Madhouse animated Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, all of Satoshi Kon’s works, and a bevy of other high quality animated shows. It inched past Railgun mainly because Madhouse was able to make all the varied animation styles work.

-

Top Animation Studio

Winner: AIC

AIC is not one of the anime studios that get talked about often; they lack the star power that a Gainax, J.C. Staff, or Kyoto Animation has and at the same time they lack the negative attention that a Sunrise, Studio Deen, or Gonzo has. They’re probably best known for the Oh My Goddess franchise to most people though maybe some know them from animating Bamboo Blade, Asu no Yoichi, or Ga-Rei: Zero. This season they released four shows: Sora No Otoshimono, Sasameki Koto, Nyan Koi, Astro Fighter Sunred; and a glance at the awards I’ve given out so far sees all four getting mentioned and winning a fair number of them. The weakest show of the four, Nyan Koi, was still a pretty good show and better than much of the rest of this season’s shows. Therefore, they were the easy pick this season with Madhouse a very distant second.

Astro Fighter Sunred

Nyan Koi

Sasameki Koto

Sora no Otoshimono

-

That’s it for part 3 of my summer 2009 anime awards. Stay tuned for my top overall picks of the season. :)
